Bill would have restored long-standing, balanced approach that exists in every other Western state
SALEM, Ore. – June 30, 2025 – The Protect Oregon Recreation coalition issued the following statement regarding the legislature’s failure to address recreation liability laws:
“We are disappointed that the Oregon legislature has once again failed to adopt reasonable reforms that would protect access to recreation for all Oregonians.
In a time when families across Oregon are feeling the burden of increasing costs, the Legislature had the opportunity to make real change that would slow cost increases for recreation.
This failure will inevitably increase the pressure and financial burden on Oregon’s recreation providers and further limit recreation opportunities in the state. Small businesses, low-income communities, and underserved populations will be hit hardest, with rising costs cutting off access to activities that support health, connection, and economic vitality.
We would like to sincerely thank Representative John Lively and Senator Mark Meek who fought courageously against misinformation and political special interests to champion these much needed reforms.”
